Cries of joy and happiness.

Sherman, out. Say what you want, but the man was a cretin. Look at the roster. All the names we root for week in and week out, Favre, Green, Franks, Tauscher, Clifton, Longwell, Driver, Flanagan, hell even Fisher. These are all Wolf guys. Now, look at the guys who drive you nuts week in and week out. Collins, Barnett, Carroll, Klem, Nall, Harris and of course the immortal BJ Sander. These are all Sherman's guys. The ones he brought in as a GM. You can argue the effectiveness of his GM capabilities in Al Harris, Grady Jackson or the oddly timed but hopefully great pick up of Ron Gardner late in the season. But when you look to why you come to the games, it's the names from the first list, not the second, that get you going. Sherman lived off a team that was put there before him. Bill Callahan did the same thing with the Raiders. He took them to the superbowl. Unfortunately for him, the team of Allen and Chucky was no Ron Wolf, and that team pulled an 05 packers much quicker. Ted Thompson says he's doing this for the long term health of the organization and I believe him. The majority of "sherman's guys" will be cut in this coming year. The result would have been a fractured gm/coach relationship. However, there is a man worthy of pacing the sidelines, Jim Bates. His defensive prowess is amazing. He also seems like he would be more than willing to hire a good west coast coach with an understanding of the offense (mariucci/jauron with ties to the team, Fassel/Musgrave/Heimerdinger when he's fired as still good options) which would keep Favre from having to learn a new system. I remember watching an NFL films presentation on Favre throwing a dummy audible to Sterling Sharpe against the 49ers. The reason they needed a dummy audible is because, with the rare exception (Chucky) the west coast offense doesn't change lexicons from team to team ie they have the same playbook. This would be the ideal situation, as long as Ted Thompson doesn't draft in the same style he did last year. It was akin to a drunk redneck ordering in a French bistro on the Champs, but with more slobbering and less of an effort. I'll do a draft work up at some point in February, just to see if he pays attention. Hopefully, we sign some good linemen this offseason. Also, in my not-so-careful research, I came across a "legend" of the west coast offense and giggled. George Siefert.
